Goats on the roof

A short little road trip today took us to Coombs Country Market, complete with goats on the roof.  I took so many photos that I decided to collage them.  That way I could get a whole bunch in!
Attached to and above the new Italian Restaurant called Cuckoo in Coombs (fantastic pizza as you can see in the last collage...) is a furniture store with reproduction and antique chinese furniture.  I was really struck by the adornments on the pieces.
The garden center is one of my favorite places at the market.  It's so nice to see Spring finally arriving on the Island.
Great ornaments and planters... something for everyone.
And the fresh fruit and produce market was great.  I can't wait to cut into my pineapple.   I had to include a couple of shots I've taken this week at home.  Sweetie begged for a brownie so I finally made him one.  Mine was covered in strawberries and greek yogurt.  YUMMY!

Trillium, wild Art

Along side my favorite walking trail among fallen trees blanketed by soft green moss are stands of delicate yet at the same time sturdy, trilliums. one of three Native BC plants protected by law.  I often think how wonderful they would look under the trees in my own garden....but unless an ant carries the seed for me ... it's just not going to happen.

"The Trillium: Trillium ovatum. The western trillium is one of BC’s three protected flowers. It is illegal to dig trilliums in the wild due to the protection act. Even before the law against picking trilliums was put in place folk beliefs were that if one picked the flower it would take seven years for it to grow back. The reasons for the importance of the protection of the trillium is that once it has been picked the flower’s growth is set back. The cause of such a set back is by breaking off the stem and food–making leaves the plants growth is slowed down even more. The trillium already takes up to fifteen years to flower and once it has been picked it dies and the entire process has to begin again."   Thanks to to this site for the great info: wildflower preservation.
A pink beauty among the reeds.
Also emerging in the spring is the wild yellow violet.  What a beauty.
And there... around a bend in the trail, my favorite of them all, the pink fawn lily.  Isn't she stunning!

Stolen Images

Our next door neighbor asked us to keep an eye on their place for the weekend.  So as they sail down the driveway towards Grandmas' house... I grabbed my camera and took some photos of her helebores.  They are heavenly!

Are these not to most beautiful things you have ever seen?
These are my very own mini daffodils.  A couple of Easters' ago my Mom brought them over.  They have been happily spreading out ever since.
Twisted Filbert... Corylus avellana 'Contorta' .... Harry Lauder's Walking Stick, is much deserved of many names!  It's a fantastic plant for winter interest and in the spring when the catkins emerge it's so lovely.
A pure white helebore (even after I played with the color on this photo).  Not my plant yet... (my neighbor is very generous :)  My white helebore is more of a pale green..... I think I need some photos of my own plant!

I really don't know clouds..... at all

rows and rows of angel hair
ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

but now they only block the sun
they rain and snow on everyone

so many things I would have done
but clouds got in my way...
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
from up and down

 and still somehow

it's clouds illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds, at all...
thanks to the great Joni Mitchell
